ResilienCity: map-Lab’s 2035 Vision For Boston Includes a 20 Million Gallon Water Cistern

If the extraordinary ResilienCity comes to pass, Boston in 2035 will be a very green and exciting place indeed. Far surpassing <a href="http://inhabitat.com/photos-hundreds-attend-masdar-citys-first-eco-street-fair/">Masdar City</a> and other eco-dreams, this <a href="http://www.map-lab.com/">map-lab</a> Living City Design Competition entry not only restores Boston's former ecological glory, but also ensures an almost excessively healthy and safe environment for its future residents. In addition to generating four times the amount of energy it will actually need, the designers propose to convert an <a href="http://inhabitat.com/new-submission-33/">underground bus tunnel into a giant, 20 million gallon water cistern</a> and outfit every home with a list of "ingredients" that depicts its sustainability!

ResilienCity is a visionary design for 2035 Boston.

The city will generate 4x as much energy as it needs using PVs, biogas, and microCHP.

A series of canals will create the necessary irrigation for green roofs and living walls.

An underground bus tunnel will be converted into a 20 million gallon water cistern.

Granite seawalls will be replaced with constructed wetlands to allow for aquifer recharge.

This will definitely be a pedestrian-friendly city.

Which will have an additional 15 million square feet of green space.

Every building will have a list of "ingredients" posted, which will depict its sustainability. And all the eco-nerds will be able to monitor their health (to an obsessive degree) with special bio-activated id cards.
