Reverse Graffiti<a href="http://inhabitat.com/colorful-and-quirky-tree-planter-art-brightens-up-torontos-streets/" target="_blank">Graffiti</a> has long been thought of as vandalism - spray paint and wheat pastes defacing city walls and buildings. But two artists have turned this guerrilla art form on its ear by hitting the streets with eco-friendly reverse graffiti. By selectively cleaning stencils on grimey city walls, Moose Curtis and Marc Cameron have been creating thought-provoking pictures of green cars around the city of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/henning-larsen-wins-bid-to-re-structure-siemens-munich-headquarters/" target="_blank">Munich</a>.1
Reverse GraffitiSponsored by the German magazine, Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, the duo have been using their clean <a href="http://inhabitat.com/golan-levins-info-graphic-stencils-are-for-the-graffiti-loving-environmentalist/" target="_blank">graffiti technique </a>to pay homage to the epic electric vehicles on the market.2
Reverse GraffitiThe industry leaders- the Tesla Roadster, Nissan Leafe, Renault Twizy and <a href="http://inhabitat.com/the-2014-bmw-i3-electric-car-is-spotted-in-chicago/" target="_blank">BMW i3</a> are all represented on walls across Munich.3
Reverse GraffitiMoose Curtis is known for his cleanart project last year, sponsored by Time Out, that he collaborated with <a href="http://www.fotorater.com/magazine/photography/2011/09/reverse-graffiti-cars-hit-munich/" target="_blank">Fotorater</a> found Marc Cameron for in <a href="http://inhabitat.com/super-energy-efficient-warehouse-stores-the-british-film-institutes-collection-at-sub-zero-temps/" target="_blank">London</a>.4
Reverse GraffitiInspired by the sooty pollution on buildings caused by car exhaust and other city dirt, the pair initially began by selectively cleaning parts of the dirty walls. A complete contrast from traditional <a href="http://inhabitat.com/beautiful-living-mosstiles-brighten-up-your-room-with-every-color-of-the-rainbow/" target="_blank">graffiti</a>, which puts paint on to walls, the pair’s subtractive process not only helped clean up grime, but also illustrates a lesson in green art.5
Reverse GraffitiThe idea to illustrate green cars with the green art practice of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/flight-101-dutch-ink-uses-reverse-graffiti-to-tag-up-another-wall-by-cleaning-it/" target="_blank">reverse graffiti</a> was inspired by Marc’s Light Graffiti Cars project, which were slow exposure photographs of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/video-all-electric-tron-lightcycle-hits-the-streets/" target="_blank">LED-clad cars</a>.6
Reverse GraffitiSüddeutsche Zeitung Magazin selected the four cars represented, and commissioned the pair to immortalize them with reverse graffiti. The beautiful pieces are a combination of art, green transportation, and an iconic homage to green practices.
