El Caracol Kindergaten by Demos ArquitectosColumbian architectural team Demos Arquitectos designed this amazing modular Kindergarten building with the city kid in mind. Taking the elements of a regular town—a street, house, and park, they transformed the schooling experience into a replica of the spaces kids are already familiar and comfortable with, their neighborhoods. El Caracol in Bogota is not only a fresh and bright place for children to learn, but it is also packed with passive solar power!1
El Caracol Kindergaten by Demos ArquitectosThe kindergarten's main entrance is similar to a city street lined with galleries such as offices and meeting rooms. The main "road" feeds into a central courtyard surrounded by classrooms, similar to a cul-de-sac.2
El Caracol Kindergaten by Demos ArquitectosThe courtyard is not unlike a central town square, where meetings, events, and entertainment are held. Classrooms are past the main courtyard, where the rooms are more isolated and general foot traffic begins to lessen.3
El Caracol Kindergaten by Demos ArquitectosThe classrooms are simple modular buildings with one wall covered in windows.4

El Caracol Kindergaten by Demos ArquitectosThe outdoor play area is similar to a back yard, minimal and open with a complete view of the back of the building.8
El Caracol Kindergaten by Demos ArquitectosChildren not only learn to play together but understand the concept of staying in the yard like theirs at home, and not wandering into the street. The kindergarten's home-away-from-home scheme makes going to school extra fun!9
