Strabag’s Art-Filled Slovakia Heaquarters is Topped With an Upside-Down House!

The Slovakia-based headquarters of <a href="http://www.strabag.sk/" target="_blank">Strabag</a> is an energy-efficient building - with an upside down house smashed into its side! The European construction company hired artist <a href="http://www.erwinwurm.at/" target="_blank">Erwin Wurm</a> to add his signature work "House Attack" to the outside of their building. Designed by MHM Architects, SKC Bratislava is modern office building that takes advantage of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/geothermal">geothermal heating and cooling</a> and is filled with art. The horizontal tower is clad in green low-e glass and it provides office space for 530 people in Slovakia's capital, Bratislava.

<a href="http://www.strabag.com/databases/internet/_public/content.nsf/web/EN-STRABAG.COM-slowakei.html#?men1=3&amp;sid=300&amp;h=4" target="_blank">Strabag Slovaki's headquarters</a> in Bratislava were designed by Viennese firm <a href="http://www.mhm-architects.com/" target="_blank">MHM Architects</a>.

The building is a reflection of their work as a construction company and their interest in the arts.

In fact, the building prominently displays the company’s extensive art collection, with works by renowned artists.

The most notable is Erwin Wurm's "House Attack" - a single family home hanging from the corner of the building as though it were about to fall off.

Whether ironic or clever, Strabag's selection of outdoor art is certainly an interesting one.

MHM Architecture's design largely focussed on ways to reduce energy use.

The six story building is perched on stilts to create a shaded plaza and entrance below the building.

Glass in various shades of green clad the building and provide sun and sound protection without sacrificing daylight.

The building's narrow floor plan allow for every office space to have access to light, views and natural ventilation.

Rooftop gardens provide space for relaxation and events with views of the surrounding area.

Finally, the energy efficient office is heated and cooled with a geothermal well system and a water-water heat pump.
