Woods Bagot Designs Efficient New Headquarters for Melbourne Water

    Construction is now complete on <a href="http://www.melbournewater.com.au/Default.asp?bhcp=1">Melbourne Water</a>'s impressive new headquarters, which are located in the docklands area of Melbourne. The modern new building was designed by international design firm <a href="http://www.woodsbagot.com/en/Pages/default.aspx">Woods Bagot</a>, and it's built to some of the highest green standards in Australia. The new building will serve as the main office for Melbourne Water, the city's water authority, and it has been designed to achieve the highest possible level of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/water-issues">water conservation</a>.

    Melbourne Water's new headquarters has achieved a 5 Star NABERS rating (NABERS is Australia's green building rating system). And it is expected to receive a 6 Star NABERS rating following a period of occupancy.

    The building's interior is also expected to achieve a 6 Star Green Star rating.

    To minimize water usage, the builders installed 84 Norwegian JETS vacuum drainage toilets throughout the building. The innovative toilets are expected to cut water usage from 4 liters per flush to just 0.8 liters.

    The building also features a rainwater harvesting and catchment system. After rainwater is filtered it is used in toilets throughout the building.

    Construction on the building began in 2010 and finished earlier this year.

    The modern new building is expected to serve as a gateway to Docklands and the Digital Harbour neighborhood in Melbourne.
