D*Haus architecture - 1In most houses, all you can do is pull your curtains shut or draw down the shades when it gets too hot. But David Ben Grunberg and Daniel Woolfson of the experimental UK-based design and architecture firm <strong><a href="http://www.thedhaus.com" target="_blank">D*Haus</a></strong> have dreamed up a house that you can actually change the shape of to accommodate different times of day, weather conditions and seasons.1
D*Haus architectureThe house was originally designed as Grunberg's graduation project to deal with extreme temperatures like hot summers and frigid winters.2
D*Haus architecture - 7The geometries and movement of the house are based on a mathematical formula by Henry Dudeny that calculates how a square can be formed by a series of equilateral triangles.3
D*Haus architecture - 8D*Haus has taken this mathematical concept and applied it to architecture by creating four separate building modules that form a perfect square in plan.4
D*Haus architecture - 6The idea is that these four components would move on rails, opening up during more temperate seasons and closing in during harsher weather conditions.5
