Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsFor this year's Archifest in Singapore, WOW Architects designed and built a zero waste pavilion called Wonder | Wall. The temporary space was used for lectures, classes, concerts and other events during the month of October in Fort Canning Park. Built from reusable scaffolding and staging, the pavilion also features a recyclable Versiweb facade that holds plants in its pockets to create a living space. Now that the festival is over, the pavilion will be dismantled and all of the elements will be reused throughout the city.1
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsWOW Architects was one of four shortlisted firms to design the first-ever pavilion for Singapore's Archifest.2
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsTheir design for Wonder | Wall took inspiration from the location at Fort Canning Park and was a response to the duality of the site.3
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsThe quiet park is reflected in the intimate volume, while the nearby vibrant and bustling Clarke Quay is accessible via the permeable membrane of the pavilion.4
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsThe skeleton of the pavilion was constructed with a box-truss systems developed for the Formula One Night race and the National Day Parade.5
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsThen it was covered in a web of Versiweb, which is a membrane use to control soil erosion.6
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsVolunteers donated time to recycled plastic bottles into planters that were then placed in the "pockets" of the Versiweb to create a living space.7
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsThe pavilion features three spaces for events: a fully enclosed display area for intimate occasions; a semi-enclosed stage; and an outdoor screen for movie nights.8
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsStraw mats were inserted into the web and were used by visitors to create a welcoming and comfortable experience.9
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsNow that the festival is over, the pavilion will be dismantled and all the elements will be completely reused or recycled. The stage and truss system will be re-used in other commercial events along with the future National Day parades.10
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsThe Versiweb membrane will be used in the area for slope protection and stabilization or donated to other projects with similar needs.11
Wonder Wall Pavilion-WOW ArchitectsThe plants and straw mats will be donated to visitors who can take them home for further enjoyment.12
