EMa Arquitectos’ Pangal Cabin is a Simple Retreat Focused on Nature in Casablanca, Chile

<a href="http://www.em-a.cl/">EMa Arquitectos</a> has designed a modern, sustainable, and economical cabin in Casablanca, Chile with views that could rival the <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034583/">1943 cinematic masterpiece</a>. The house, known as the Pangal Cabin, is located on top of a sloping 5,000-square-meter site overlooking the valley and ravines to the north. This 60-square-meter, one-bedroom cabin creates a refuge through construction efficiency and smart <a href="http://inhabitat.com/index.php?s=site+planning">site planning</a>.

The materiality of wood continues throughout the home and onto the deck before it is interrupted by the rectilinear pool that is oriented to match the site.

The volumes and simplistic geometry of the home provides a very comfortable environment for the clients as they can focus on the natural surroundings, which are brought in through the glazed northwest walls.

The living area and the sleeping areas of the home are oriented around the views of the valley below and incorporates natural lighting and solar energy without losing privacy.

The structure of the cabin is made from steel, which allowed for fast and efficient construction.

The dramatic landscape is a welcomed relief for these homeowners who were seeking refuge in this cabin.

Actually, the home is planned around an existing Quillaja saponaria tree (Soap Bark Tree), which is native to this area of Chile.

Orlando Etcheberrigaray and Klaus Matuschka of EMa Arquitectos teamed with construction company Nautilus Constructora to design and build an efficient and simple getaway for the clients.

The second floor functions as a second bedroom, an office, a viewing area, and a loft.
