When someone says they live in a van, it generally implies that they've fallen on hard times—but take one look at these vans that have been fixed up and transformed into tiny living spaces, and you might just want to trade in your apartment. Welsh couple Bill and Becky Goddard, founders of Rustic Campers, are the creative force behind these unique vehicles, and they use locally-sourced wood to transform clunky old vehicles into beautiful campers.

The Goddards are based in the Welsh border town of Presteigne, where Bill works as a tree surgeon and carpenter.

Bill uses locally sourced wood, and he tries to allow his wooden interiors to retain their natural beauty and form.

"Because we live and work in the countryside and our lifestyle is such that nature has a very direct influence on what we do," he explained in a press release. "We mostly use wood throughout the conversions, which we source locally where possible."

Becky, meanwhile, is the cofounder of the recycling textiles business ‘Pretty Rubbish,’ and she uses her experience working with fabric to design and create the upholstery featured in their campers.

"I try to use only natural fabrics where possible for my upholstery, using cotton, wool and recycled fabrics," explains Becky. "We source local sheepskins and hand woven wool blankets to adorn the interior."

Each of the campervans the Goddards produce is unique, and they work directly with clients to customize them. And despite their rustic appearance, the campers contain modern, 21st-century amenities, like solar-powered electrical systems, a stove, running water, and even a hot shower.
