The Twist Olympic Stadium by MenoMenoPiu ArchitectsThe host city for the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Summer_Olympics">2020 Summer Olympics</a> won't be named until September -- Istanbul, Madrid, and Tokyo are all in the running -- but architects are already developing designs for a potential Olympic stadium in Tokyo. This week, <a href="http://www.mmpaa.eu/">MenoMenoPiu Architects</a> and <a href="http://fhf-architectes.com/">FHF Architectes</a> shared their plans for The Twist, a large spiral-shaped stadium that would feature large <a href="http://inhabitat.com/solar-power/">solar arrays</a> and a rainwater collection system. The multifunctional stadium would be both environmentally sustainable and easily accessible for the rest of the city.1
The Twist Olympic Stadium by MenoMenoPiu ArchitectsThe Twist gets its name from its spiral-shaped, ramp-like structure, which makes it fully accessible to people with disabilities and able to easily to accommodate large crowds coming and leaving different events.2
The Twist Olympic Stadium by MenoMenoPiu ArchitectsThanks to the elliptical ramp, the entire stadium can be evacuated in just 15 minutes, according to <a href="http://www.mmpaa.eu/">MenoMenoPiu Architects</a>.3
The Twist Olympic Stadium by MenoMenoPiu ArchitectsThe stadium will have a capacity of 80,000 people, and it will be able to accommodate a wide variety of sports and cultural events ranging from soccer, rugby and track & field to concerts.4
The Twist Olympic Stadium by MenoMenoPiu ArchitectsThe Twist's roof will be covered in solar panels, which will be used to power stadium operations.5
The Twist Olympic Stadium by MenoMenoPiu ArchitectsThe stadium's retractable roof will be covered with an opaque metal structure, upon which a variety of translucent and opaque photovoltaic panels will be installed.6
The Twist Olympic Stadium by MenoMenoPiu ArchitectsThe stadium will also feature a rainwater retention system, which will harvest rainwater and reuse it on-site.7
