Lighting Designers Transform Peru’s Biggest Bank into One of the World’s Largest Interactive Light Shows

    Global lighting leader <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/philips/" target="_blank">Philips</a> recently unveiled BCP Affinity, a massive LED-studded <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/interactive-art/" target="_blank">interactive</a> installation that transformed the facade of Peru's largest and oldest bank into a public art piece. Made from 26,000 connected <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/leds/" target="_blank">LEDs</a> from the Philips Color Kinetics line, <a href="http://www.viabcp.com/" target="_blank">Banco del Crédito de Peru's</a> (BCP) new luminous facade can be seen almost anywhere in the city of Lima and is one of the largest interactive art installations in the world. Passersby can interact with the installation by touching and playing with a podium of LED panels that mimic the BCP facade on a smaller scale.

    This is the latest high-profile structure to be equipped with LED lights from <a href="http://www.colorkinetics.com" target="_blank">Philips Color Kinetics</a>, an efficient and digitally controllable LED lighting line commonly installed on major international buildings such as NYC's <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/empire-state-building" target="_blank">Empire State Building</a>.

    In addition to creating a new canvas for public art, the interactive and dynamic light installation helps engage urban dwellers and soften the public image of a major Peruvian financial corporation.

    In order to enable interactivity with the facade, lighting designers Claudia Paz and Nicholas Cheung created a podium of LED <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/touch-screen/" target="_blank">touch screen</a> panels located on the street-level.

    Passersby can touch and play with the screen to create lighting effects such as constellations, rain, and fireworks.
