Creative Polish Bakery Uses Recycled Baking Trays as Wall Tiles

The Doppio Cafe Bistro / <a title="Doppio Cafe Bistro in Poland Gets a Sweet Eco Renovation" href="http://piekarniabartkowscy.pl/" target="_blank">Bartkowscy</a> in Toruń now features old baking sheets turned into wall tiles and lamp shades that blend in with minimalist wooden furniture. Realized by <a title="Doppio Cafe Bistro in Poland Gets a Sweet Eco Renovation" href="http://modelina-architekci.com/pivotx/" target="_blank">Mode:lina architekci</a> together with the owners, this centenarian bakery combines recycled aesthetics with the incomparable aroma of fresh baked goods.

With 18 stores in Toruń, one of the oldest cities in Poland, this traditional bakery has renovated its character.

Poznań-based Mode:lina architekci kept the traditional enamel white tilling and checked floors.

Beautifully combining the old and the new, the design team updated the space with wooden light fixtures and counters, while giving new life to old baking sheets.

The traditional atmosphere is omnipresent thanks to oven-shaped furniture and worn out baking sheets used for lighting and tiling.

The architects explain where the inspiration came from: 'The meeting with centenarian story of this family’s craftsmanship was a huge inspiration for the new interior design.'

'An aroma of fresh bread, huge ovens and old worn out baking sheets made it clear that the fusion of tradition and modern design is the answer.'
