Imake BirdhousesIt was no sleep 'til BKLYN for the Inhabitat editors at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair this New York Design week. This year, our favorite Brooklyn-grown design show set up shop at ICFF, and we were on the scene to scope out the fresh crop of locally-made furniture. From luxury chicken coops for the urban hen to beetle-eaten reclaimed tabletops, check out our roundup of the best of BKLYN Designs from the show.1
Raad Chicken CoopLeave it to Brooklynites to make raising chickens trendy. Case in point: this modern solar-powered hen house by Raad.2
Pickett Bamboo LampWe're glad we looked up for a change because otherwise we never would have seen this elegant bamboo lamp by Pickett that features a pentagram-shaped base.3
Volk ChestBrian Volk-Zimmerman, the designer behind Volk handmade furniture uses reclaimed organ knobs as drawer pulls on his custom-made chests and lines them with leftover cloth from his girlfriend's fashion job.4
Volk DrawersVolk's drawers have a really unique look and are likely to become heirloom pieces.5
Pickett LampFrom the side, the smooth bamboo is the first thing you notice about the lamps, but check out the view from below - the base is a black pentagram.6
Imake Studio TableAre we noticing a theme this year? IMAKE Studio, with partners KWH furniture, also opted to showcase abodes for feathered friends - although theirs were for backyard bird visitors instead of chickens. We also got a kick out of their triangular modular tables that can be used as single pieces or clustered together in a number of fun and functional configurations.7
Hooker and Co TableThink beetle-eaten barn wood is worthy of the trash heap? Hooker and Co. doesn't. We checked out their really cool, and surprisingly beautiful table made from reclaimed (formerly) bug-infested wood.8
BeetleholesA closeup of the beetle holes left by the former occupants.9
Bklyn Designs BoothThe BKLYN Designs folks were welcoming and eager to tell us about their work.10
