• You might have seen pre-made mason jar herb gardens like this one selling for hundreds of bucks at designer stores, but Summer and her dad made theirs for just about $60. If you already have many of the materials (an old piece of wood and some jars you saved after spaghetti dinners) you can make yours for even cheaper! The other cool part about this DIY is that you can make your herb garden look just like Summer's with 2 rows, or customize it to be as large or small as you like.

 • Picking up fresh herbs at a local farmers market is definitely a foodie luxury, but it doesn't hold a candle to harvesting fragrant, just-plucked seasonings right from your own kitchen. If you've always wanted to create an indoor herb garden but weren't sure how, our favorite eco-model Summer Rayne Oakes has got a wonderfully useful DIY project for you. Summer and her handy dad recently created a beautiful herb garden right on her kitchen wall using just a few mason jars, recycled wood pieces and other inexpensive materials, and we're really impressed by the result.
STEP 1:
Eyeball where you want the jars and the hose clamps to go on the wood. Mark off the positions with a pencil.

STEP 2:
Place your wood strip on the wall and mark where you'd like it to go (try to choose a spot that gets a good amount of sunlight). Make sure that the board is straight.

STEP 4:
Once you have your board in the position you want, use screws and a drill to secure it onto the wall. NOTE: All walls are different, so depending on what kind of wall you have, you may need to use anchors or certain types of screws.
