SHoP Architects Unveils New East River Waterfront Esplanade Renderings

The <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/east-river-gets-new-life-with-waterfront-esplanade/">East River Waterfront Esplanade</a> is already an awesome spot to hang out near the water, but new renders (seen at <a href="http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2013/07/12/another_piece_of_the_east_river_esplanade_gets_rendered.php">Curbed NY</a>) showing an expansion to make it even better were released this week. Similar to the existing esplanade, <a href="http://www.shoparc.com">SHoP Architects</a>' new design, "package 4," will extend the esplanade an additional two blocks between the Catherine and Pike Slips.

The expanded East River Esplanade will look very similar to the original stretch

Bleacher-type seating will overlook the water

Plenty of shaded areas allow people to get out of the sun, if they wish

Planter lounge seating will be interspersed throughout the two blocks

There will be a comment period that runs until August 26

Plans will then be sent off to City Planning
