Wolfson began recreating his beloved New York scenes in the 1980s, when the city was a much different place. Born and raised in the city, the artist decided to recreate scenes from wandering around New York from the past and present, all meticulously by hand using traditional model-making methods.

Using a scale of ½ inch to one foot, every element and detail in the tableaus are made by Wolfson, sometimes taking up to nine months to complete the more detailed scenes.

Working largely from photographs, the artist also infuses some of his own imagination into the details of each represented place.

The seedy casinos and peep shows of the 1980s are remembered, as are the graffiti-filled subway cars of the past. Showing a more recent and familiar New York is the Brooklyn Rooftop piece, which depicts what locals constitute as outdoor space, strewn with lawn chairs, mini pools and barbeques.

Wolfson continues to make New York miniatures, and is shares his tiny world in galleries world wide.
