Bjarke Ingels Group unveils spiraling New York tower wrapped in a ribbon of green terraces

<a href="http://www.big.dk/" target="_blank">Bjarke Ingels Group</a> just unveiled plans for a 65-story glass tower wrapped in a ribbon of green terraces at 66 Hudson Boulevard on the west side of Manhattan. The monolithic tapered volume is interrupted with a continuous green pathway that continues from the famed High Line and ascend in a spiral up the skyscraper to form fantastic outdoor spaces.

The tower will be part of the Hudson Yards mixed-use development currently under construction on the west side of Manhattan, close to where the High Line intersects with the Hudson Boulevard Park.

With a flexible layout that is intended to encourage collaboration, the ziggurat-shaped tower will feature office spaces accompanied by amenities such as double-height atria and green terraces.

Its podium will contain retail spaces and a large "amenity terrace" located on the seventh floor.

The architects combined "the silhouette of the premodern skyscraper with the slender proportions and efficient layouts of the modern high-rise" and created a signature element: a cascading ribbon of landscaped terraces that provide the tenants with much needed outdoor spaces.

With a height of 1003 feet, The Spiral will occupy an entire block framed by West 34th Street, West 35th Street, 10th Avenue and Hudson Park.

"The Spiral will punctuate the northern end of the High Line, and the linear park will appear to carry through into the tower, forming an ascending ribbon of lively green spaces, extending the High Line to the skyline," said Bjarke Ingels.
