Landscape architect behind the High Line designs a breathtaking rooftop garden in Brooklyn

    Renowned landscape architecture firm <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/james-corner-field-operations/" target="_blank">James Corner Field Operations</a>, most famous for its work on the <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/high-line" target="_blank">High Line</a>, recently completed a gorgeous rooftop garden in Brooklyn, but there’s just one catch—this one’s not open to the public. Located in the heart of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/dumbo" target="_blank">DUMBO</a> atop the <a href="http://60water.com/" target="_blank">60 Water Street</a> luxury apartment building, this 6,000-square-foot rooftop boasts a beautiful palette of native grasses framed against stunning views of Manhattan. And while most of us won’t have the chance to see the garden in person, keep reading to experience the garden vicariously through our photo gallery.

    Developed by Two Trees NY management, the 60 Water Street high-rise was designed by Leeser Architecture. The crown jewel is the landscaped Dock Street Rooftop Terrace that overlooks panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, including the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, and East River.

    Described as a “meadow in the sky” by the landscape architects, the rooftop garden is divided into a series of outdoor “rooms,” each oriented towards a unique vista and offering different programming, from lounging and dining to relaxing and entertaining.

    The egress stair is hidden within a large mirrored cube that serves as both a design focal point and reflective shade structure that creates a continuous horizon.

    The variety of seating areas are strategically located to overlook select views, from the custom alcove benches that face Downtown Brooklyn in the south to the intimate and centrally located dining area surrounded by lush vegetation.
