It’s hard to believe that it’s almost October, but we couldn’t be more excited because this year October means Archtober — the first-ever month long festival of architecture and design in New York City! Initiated by AIA New York and the Center of Architecture, the festival featuring 31 days of awesome events like architectural tours, green design exhibits, and special showcases of New York City’s best sustainable buildings. Event highlights take you over, under, inside, and around the amazing architecture in New York. One can start on a walking tour of Soho, the Coney Island Yard, or the historic areas of the East Village and end up at an architectural movie screening at the BMW Guggenheim Lab or the subway art exhibition at the Center for Architecture. Archtober is family friendly as well with plenty of activities and workshops including how to build your own skyscraper!

The idea for Archtober was initiated by AIA New York, the Center for Architecture, Open House New York and the Architecture & Design Film Festival. Dozens of other organizations and local businesses have joined in the fun, creating special exhibits and tours (you can find the full list of participants here). The goal of the festival is to “raise awareness of the important role of design in our city and to build a lasting civic and international recognition of the richness of New York’s built environment.”
