The construction of Brooklyn Bridge Park has been an ongoing project for over ten years. What was once a desolate 1.5-mile stretch of industrial waterfront has slowly been converted into a beautiful green park that currently sees over 330,000 visitors every week.

The 10-year project has seen Piers 1, 2, 5, and 6 converted into ample green space for the community. Pier 3 will be the final major stage of construction in the park, which has been headed by outgoing BBP President Regina Myer. Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, who has led the landscape architecture design of the entire Brooklyn Bridge Park, will now use $26 million in capital funding to convert the final pier into even more beautiful waterfront park space for the community.
“This park has become the front lawn of Brooklyn. And Pier 3 will add more space for kids to play and for families to enjoy this incredible place. We have made building Brooklyn Bridge Park and securing it for the long-term a major priority, and we are thrilled to support this latest addition,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Construction on Pier 3 is expected to be completed in spring 2018.
