Located in Springfield, MO, Curved House is a private residence surrounded by a signature masonry wall. Formed in a U-shape around a private and protected courtyard, the exterior features two gentle curves: one signifying the primary entrance; and another that reappears to form the west wall of the pool cabana. These curves also reappear in the fire pit and pool, giving the home a right to its name. The 7,800 sq ft home is built with an eclectic mix of brick, ipe, cedar, and Spanish tile.
The client’s interest in sustainability is matched with Hufft Projects experience, and energy efficient and eco-friendly strategies are used throughout. First a solar photovoltaic array is mounted on top of the cabana roof. Second a geothermal system provides energy-efficient heating and cooling that is coupled with a radiant floor heating system. Low-e glass is used throughout and works in conjunction with the firm’s design for natural daylighting and views from every room.
