The 3-day event housed in SoHo’s Skylight Clarkson Sq will be imbued with the theme of ‘Resiliency’, constructing a forum for fresh ideas and sparking artful, yet timely, conversation. The onstage sessions will include “Reimagining a More Resilient New York,” “How Hurricane Sandy Changed Building,” and “Future Cities,” all timely national concerns as the industry reflects on progress and setbacks since Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy. Other tech-inspired programs are also on deck, including “3-D Printing and Intellectual Design” and “Smart vs. Safe Tech,” with over 15 opportunities for AIA and IDCEC CEU credits.
As America’s largest design show, Dwell on Design NY will house nearly 40 educational sessions and the opportunity to earn up to 18 CEUs. DODNY’s education features thoughtfully-crafted themes led by hand-picked industry leaders. Over 5,000 visitors and industry professionals are expected to join the conversations and explore 60,000 square feet of installations.
Pulitzer Prize–winning author and Vanity Fair architecture critic Paul Goldberger will lead the keynote presentation, along with with renowned architect Eric Owen Moss. Among many works, Goldberger recently penned a biographical ode to one of our time’s most preeminent architects in Building Art: The Life and Work of Frank Gehry. Other speakers include designer Dror Benshetrit, recipient of the 2014 AIA Young Architects Award Illya Azaroff, and Google Material Design NY creative lead Rob Giampietro.
Five Dwell Home Tours will take place on Saturday, October 3, allowing visitors to step inside some of Manhattan’s most coveted, contemporary homes – from a Tribeca loft rediscovered for a modern family, to a stunning West Village oasis. Expect to meet award-winning architects and designers on each tour, including Low-Line designer James Ramsey, Matthew Bremer, and Cezign. You can also catch each of the designers in a preview of the projects during “Meet the Architects,” on Thursday October 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at AIANY’s 2015 Archtober Hall in the South Street Seaport.
