Here’s how it works: Along your route you can stop at an ebuggy relay station to connect your electric vehicle to an ebuggy trailer. The ebuggy trailer will act as a range extender and allow your electric car to use the power from the trailer rather than its own battery. You return the ebuggy at a relay service station, and with the power from your car’s fully-charged battery you can then continue on to your destination.

In addition to improving the driving range of electric vehicles, ebuggy also states that its solution will allow automakers to build their electric vehicles with smaller batteries. “ebuggy allows the automotive industry to build reasonably priced electric vehicles with a smaller battery, because ebuggy is available for longer distances. As a result, electric cars will become cheaper than vehicles with a combustion engine and e-mobility will be able to assert itself rapidly and dynamically,” says Dr. Manfred Baumgärtner, Managing Director of ebuggy.

ebuggy is currently establishing a network of exchange stations across Europe.
