Just over a year ago, Iraqi starchitect Zaha Hadid unveiled an out-of-this-world concept for a wavy, futuristic building next to the High Line. Now we’re getting our first look inside the spaceship, er, condo building planned for 520 West 28th Street, and we have to say it’s unmistakably Zaha. The new renderings, courtesy of a Curbed NY tipster, show only a proposed kitchen and bathroom, but even from these small bits, it seems the inside of Hadid’s design looks just as curvaceous as it does on the outside.
Nearly everything is curved in the kitchen, including the central island and a faucet that seems to be forged in a C-shape to match the aesthetic. The ceiling panels, meanwhile, seem to follow the geometry created by the architecture outside. The bathroom is slightly tamer but still looks modern with a textured wall. It also has a few unique elements including a ceiling-mounted shower head that doubles as a light fixture to release an illuminated mist of water onto homeowners.
Curbed NY theorizes condo sales won’t begin until six months from now. Leaked floorplans suggest a two-bedroom unit with two-and-a-half bathrooms will sell for $4,595,000. The building also has a five-bedroom and 6.5-bathroom penthouse accommodation listed for $35 million. As a whole, the building will stand 11-stories tall and contain 40 apartments.
