Brooklyn Barge Bar’s proprietor, Will Drawbridge (you can’t make this stuff up), told DNAinfo that he hopes the new destination will draw more visitors to the Greenpoint waterfront.
“A lot of people don’t necessarily think, ‘Let’s go out to the Greenpoint waterfront,'” he said. “We want to change that perception. It’s got some of the nicest views in the city.”
The barge, which will be docked and immobile, unlike Greenpoint’s Water Table boat restaurant, will be able to accommodate about 100 people and serve up eats like hamburgers, sandwiches and fries ranging from $4-$22. There will also be land-locked picnic tables and seats adjacent to their floating counterparts.
Drawbridge also spoke of plans to use the space for community events like a farmers market, yoga and fitness classes, and art exhibitions.
If all goes as planned, the Brooklyn Barge Bar will be open from 11AM to 2AM daily between May 1 and Oct. 31.
