Get ready to feel old, people. Friends is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and fans who loved watching Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey’s shenanigans at Central Perk will soon have a chance to step into the storied coffee shop themselves – sort of. Word on the street is that Warner Bros. Television Group, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Eight O’Clock Coffee have teamed up to create a pop-up shop modeled after the iconic hangout and will be opening it up to visitors this month. In addition to being able to take selfies on the actual orange couch from the show, guests will be able to enjoy free coffee, daily giveaways and even live performances of “Smelly Cat”! Read on for the details.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the Friends pop-up coffee shop will be a replica of the Central Perk set complete with signature props from the show. Visitors will be able to snap photos against the recognizable backdrop as they sip on java courtesy of Eight O’Clock Coffee (no word on whether the joe will be served in giant mugs though).
Guests can also expect to be entertained by musicians performing “in the same vein as Phoebe’s improvised songs” and could even rub elbows with one of the show’s regulars – James Michael Tyler, who played Rachel-obsessed barista, Gunther. There will also be trivia contests and prize giveaways.
The Friends pop-up coffeehouse be open from Wednesday, Sept. 17th to Saturday, Oct. 18th (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday) at 199 Lafayette Street. Not in the Western Hemisphere? You could always go to the other Friends replica coffee shop located in Beijing, China.
