Flatiron Sky-Line will bring ten over-sized, powder-coated steel arches to the North Public Plaza adjacent from the Flatiron Building. The hollow arcs will be laced with LED light elements that will illuminate the plaza at night. The installation will also feature an interactive component – a series of hammocks suspended from the arches that invite visitors to relax for a moment and gaze up at the surrounding architectural attractions.

“Flatiron Sky-Line is an engaging installation, creating a social space underneath the illuminated arched outline, a structure to walk within and around, gaze through it towards the skyline, and experience Flatiron’s surroundings through a certain lens,” said LOT principal Leonidas Trampoukis. “The simplicity of the installation’s design will draw in audiences, and, we expect, produce significant feelings as they stand in one of our country’s most recognizable intersections.”

The installation, made possible by NYC DOT Art, is set to open to the public November 21 and will be on view through the holidays.
