Materials
– Old wooden thread spool (at least 1 in wide) – Drill – Large drill bit – Smaller drill bit – Utility knife or other sharp knife – Pencil – Table vice or clamp (optional) – Earbuds
Step 1
Clamp spool in a vice or hold on tightly and use drill and large drill bit to hollow out one side of the spool. The larger drill bit the better, but not so large as to drill out the side. Drill down about 2/3 of the way down to create a hole large enough to fit the earbuds into. Then use the smaller drill bit to widen out the hole on the other side in order to fit the plug of your cord through. This smaller hole needs to be large enough to fit the cord and the plug in at the same time.
Step 2
Use the utility knife to carve 2 notches on the end where your cord plug will come out. Use these notches to hold the cord in place as you wrap you spool.
Step 3
Insert the plug of the cord through the large hole down the the small hole. Pull the cord until the earbuds fit snuggly inside the spool. Place the cord into one of the notches and then wrap the cord tightly around the spool’s body. Use the other notch to secure the cord and insert the plug back into the small hole.
Step 4
Tightly wrap the cord so it will stay in place. You can then throw the spool keeper in your bag and forgettaboutit!
