Lille has been developing into a destination city for both business and leisure. The JDS Youth Center reflects this constant growth, not only with its dedication to the younger populous, but also in its rising design that lifts the building off the ground and to the sky. The raised corners, illuminated byLED lights in the evening, allow for public gathering places that integrate the building with its surrounding environment and passersby. The youth hostel and kindergarten are each contained in their own wing of the triangle, providing plenty of privacy while still contributing to a community atmosphere.

Organized around a massive courtyard, the three sections of the triangle building each feature a roof that serves as an integral part of its sustainability. The kindergarten roof is a vegetated garden area with a grassy play surface that helps cool the building. The youth hostel features a number of walk-out balconies made of recycled timber. Finally, the office roof is fitted with solar panels to help power the electric functions of the building. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the offices also allow for natural light and ventilation to flow through the building.

JDS is at the forefront of modern green design, whether it be creating enormous skyscrapers or building a community center in the middle of an ever-evolving town. Their designs are certainly one of a kind.
