Leonardo DiCaprio has traveled the world throughout his acting career, but if he has his way, he might just end up exploring a new planet. In a discussion at the White House on Monday where he discussed his new documentary, Before the Flood, the actor claims he’s signed up for Elon Musk’s anticipated trip to the red planet. While it’s unclear exactly how serious his remarks were, it’s hard to blame someone who cares so passionately about climate change for wanting to simply check out as global temperatures continue to blow past historical records.
Di Caprio’s new film is a documentary detailing his travels, chronicling the increasing threat of climate change. In a journey from Miami to Canada, Beijing, and Indonesia, the actor witnessed our changing planet firsthand. He documented melting arctic ice and met with numerous climate scientists, experts, and world leaders. The film, created in partnership with National Geographic, will hit theaters October 21 and begin airing on the National Geographic Channel starting October 30.

This isn’t the first controversial statement the actor has made in recent days. DiCaprio also has some strong words for climate change deniers. In a recent interview with The Guardian, DiCaprio didn’t mince words when it came to the upcoming US presidential election: “If you don’t believe in climate change, you don’t believe in facts, and science, and empirical truths. And, in my humble opinion, [you] should not be allowed to hold public office.” While the actor didn’t highlight Donald Trump by name, the statement was widely interpreted as a slam against the aspiring politician.
