17Seventeen is a stunning new sustainable building in the heart of Dallas that is “paving” the way for energy-efficient lighting through the use of Solar Cynergy’s self-contained, solar powered LED stepping stones. These brilliant solar pavers capture all of their energy from the sun and don’t require any wiring. They create a wonderful, way-finding pattern on the pavement that spans between the separate residential and commercial towers. We applaud Scott Oldner Lighting for incorporating the lights, which create a symbolic, visual transition throughout the project. In addition to the landscape lighting, Scott Oldner Lighting created the building’s color changing “lantern”, which makes 17Seventeen a glowing landmark.
In addition to the lighting, 17Seventeen has a long list of sustainable aspects that allowed the commercial tower to be pre-certified LEED Gold by the USGBC in January 2009. Park 17, the given name for the residential tower, is pursuing LEED New Construction certification.
The designers even ensured that the residential units will be able to meet the requirements of the newly-released LEED version 3 for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI), which has higher standards for water efficiency. Not only will the tenants of the 292 apartments be able to live green — they will have access to 379,000 square feet of office space, a bank, a restaurant and an additional 6,000 square feet of retail space.
