The Manhattan West project originally called for the construction of two 65-story office towers and a 60-story residential tower just a block away from Hudson Yards. While that part remains unchanged, Brookfield wants to double the size of its open space. The new pedestrian pathway would connect the site with another Brookfield property at 450 West 33rd Street. The company plans to start renovating the platform this summer, after which construction on the towers will begin.
As the original proposal for the project has changed, Community Board 4 will have to revisit the plan to address concerns over the upkeep of the public spaces. One of the included renderings of Manhattan West suggests the plaza will have an event space for activities such as showing Casablanca on a projector movie screen.
