Based in Christchurch, New Zealand, Minnow creates stylish and sustainable lamps out of laser-cut bamboo. The husband and wife team makes their twisted lamp shades from sustainable New Zealand Macrocarpa, recycled turned copper pins and bamboo fastening clips. An ultralight lamp holder made form reclaimed copper wire supports the intricately twisted bamboo, allowing it to float delicately in the space.
Each piece is handmade in a workshop in Christchurch, New Zealand. The veneer is sourced from Auckland, and all the other components are made by local Christchurch firms. The copper wire is reclaimed from old internet cables being replaced in Christchurch, and it is straightened and hand polished in the workshop. The designers have chosen their materials carefully, with sustainability and recycling in mind.
The Twist is a simple form, made from one wide strip of wood, joined inside with a tab and slot. When lit, the wood glows from within producing a lovely warm light and showcasing the natural woodgrain. The lamp shade can be ordered online and ships worldwide.
