The 120,000 square foot building, designed by New York-based ABS Architecture and developed by Blue Sea Development, was constructed using local and recycled materials and features a living green wall, air-filtration systems, outdoor exercise areas and artwork by local children. The building also boasts decorative metal screens designed by accomplished artist, Béatrice Coron, that are titled ‘Growing Strong’.

The Arbor House is part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s New Housing Marketplace Plan (NHMP) – a multi-billion dollar initiative to finance 165,000 units of affordable housing for half a million New Yorkers by the close of the 2014 fiscal year.

“The development of innovative projects such as Arbor House is critical to our strategic roadmap, Plan NYCHA, which outlines our plan to preserve affordable housing for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers,” said NYCHA’s Chairman John B. Rhea. “Completing this effort on NYCHA property is truly on the vanguard of urban development, and we’re definitely doing our part to improve the lives of not only NYCHA families, but the entire Morrisania community.”
