Last year’s McCarren Skating Rink plan was foiled when vendor Open Space Alliance decided the rink was too expensive, and scrapped the idea, letting deadlines pass. But according to Philip Abramson of the Parks Department, another vendor has been chosen, and the McCarren Rink is back on track.

Prospect Park’s Lakeside Center, which has been in the works for the past three years, will also be opening this winter season. The long-promised ice skating rink was supposed to open in December of 2012, but remained unfinished for months. The complex is still under construction, and when completed will feature an indoor and outdoor rink. Although a vendor has not been chosen yet, the Parks Department expects a late 2013 opening of both sides of the rink.
