Has doing your dishes always seemed like a chore within a chore within a chore? Then why not make the menial task seem a little more interesting with Luca Nichetto’s Inception-inspired dish racks? The Inhabitat team recently spotted the Midtown Manhattan-shaped racks at Wanted Design 2014, and fell in love with the idea of being able to dry our plates between skyscrapers.

• Luca Nichetto Inception Cities
The Italian designer was first inspired to create this project after seeing a scale model of the Manhattan peninsula sitting on Stefano Seletti’s desk during a visit to his office in Viadana, Mantua.

"The object had no particular function, yet it immediately gave me the idea to create something that played with the surreal proportions of the miniature metropolis,” Nichetto wrote on his website.

• Luca Nichetto Inception Stacked
Christopher Nolan’s film, Inception further fueled Nichetto with ideas to turn New York’s cityscape on its head after seeing the city folded into itself in the film.

Nichetto said the scene made it seem as if the metropolis were made of rubber, which ultimately gave him the underlying vision behind the project.

• Luca Nichetto Inception Levels
The final creation is similarly called Inception and it turns Manhattan into a colorful silicone dish rack and desk organizer.

The skyscrapers were made to hold up table wear or stationary items while slightly flexing under their weight, alluding to the scene from the Nolan film.
