Some of the world's biggest superheroes came out this past weekend to celebrate the opening of a new LEGO store in the Flatiron District. Crowds gathered around the motley crew, which included Superman, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even a real-life superhero - a firefighter - all made out of LEGO. The store's grand opening festivities also included an interactive group project to build a 20-foot-tall Statue of Liberty out of the brand's colorful bricks.
The LEGO celebration took place from October 10th to the 13th and spilled from inside the new Flatiron store over to Madison Square Park and to the public plaza between the two. Folks were eager to pose for pics with the stacked characters, who stood there dutifully over all four days without complaint.
LEGO also invited builders old and young to help create a 20-foot-tall replica of the Statue of Liberty inside of Madison Square Park with help from the LEGO Master Builders. When we stopped by on Saturday, only the base had been completed, but we’re hoping to get some new photos of the final model soon.
The new LEGO Flatiron store is located at 200 5th Avenue diagonally across from the Flatiron Building and will be open from 10am-8pm Mondays-Saturdays and 11am-6pm on Sundays.
