Andrew Franz Architect is bringing some of the intoxicating waterfront ambiance of its popular uptown restaurant project La Marina to midtown with a new 3-story floating eatery and bar aboard a refurbished 10,000-square-foot yacht. The NY-based architecture firm channeled its riverfront restaurant expertise to design the new venture, called Fish Bar at North River Landing, for New York Cruise Lines, Inc. The new nautical lounge and dining destination is expected to open this summer at Pier 81.
When complete, Fish Bar at North River Landing will join NYCL’s award-winning floating lobster shack North River Lobster Company at West 42nd Street on the Hudson River. The more upscale but still laid-back venue will be decked out with nautical touches like reclaimed teak floors, bars lined with hammered brass, and upholstered banquettes, and will feature three floors with different dining and drinking atmospheres. Patrons will be able to take in breathtaking views from the outdoor deck on the top level, while the lower floors will offer cozy cabin seating.
“Our design offers a dynamic yet intimate experience of dining and drinking on a distinctive modern yacht, evocative of the lifestyle represented aboard leisure vessels found on the Côte d’Azur and throughout the Mediterranean,” said Andrew Franz, founding principal at Andrew Franz Architect. “Inspired by the classic styling of vintage yachts, the designers conceived of a contemporary nautical atmosphere featuring hammered brass bars, richly upholstered banquettes, reclaimed teak floors, and semi-private outdoor cabins.”
Fish Bar is set to open to the public at Pier 81 this summer.
