A meeting tonight with the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative and the Regional Plan Association will inform locals of the latest news concerning a brand new waterfront park on Columbia Street between Cobble Hill and Red Hook. The 80 foot area, which is currently an old shipping and storage yard, may soon be transformed into a public park complete with bike paths, green spaces, and dog runs. Over the past year, ideas for the space have been collected from residents and businesses throughout the community, and their suggestions will be revealed in additional renderings tonight at the Columbia Waterfront Park Report Back Meeting.
Brooklyn Greenway Initiative’s work can be seen all over the borough, from the green spaces on Kent Avenue in Williamsburg to the Erie Basin Park in Red Hook. Once completed, the Greenway aims to be a 14-mile off-street path connecting Greenpoint to Sunset Park, increasing waterfront access and promoting green transportation along the way. The new Columbia street Waterfront Park will contribute greatly to the initiative’s path!
