If you thought the 16-foot Slip n' Slide in your neighbor's yard growing up was impressive, check out the massive waterslide coming to Manhattan in August. Slide the City will be setting up a 270-foot-long water slide at Foley Square this weekend as part of NYC's annual Summer Streets program. Anyone over five years of age will have a chance to grab an inflatable tube and slip down the middle of Lafayette Street, creating a memory that will hopefully last a heck of a lot longer than summer’s heat.

The coconut water company Vita Coco is sponsoring the water slide, dubbed “Vita Coco Beach.” The slippery fun will be free of charge to participants, although advance online registration is required (gotta keep things, organized, after all) and sliders will have to show up 30 minutes before their allotted time for check-in.

The water slide will be open Saturdays August 1, 8, and 15 from 7am-1pm with a strict schedule of pre-claimed time slots to keep things flowing.

Vita Coco reps will be on hand with free refreshments for sliders (or should we call them slippers?). If water slides aren’t your thing, Summer Streets offers a host of other free entertainment options. Past years have shut down seven miles of city streets (mostly Park Avenue and Lafayette Street) for free snacks, a rock wall, and a zip line.
