Pier 57’s SuperPier has been home to pop-up art and fashion events over the past year, but will close up shop in January to gear up for its transformation into NYC's premier shipping container retail complex (just don't call it a mall). Developed by Youngwoo and Associates, the pier has a brand new website with updated renders and videos of what the developers have in store for the exciting new program. The massive space, which is scheduled to open in summer of 2015, will include tenants like Opening Ceremony and a restaurant by Andre Balazs in its Incubox food and retail complex.

Pier 57 has welcomed a slew of art installations and events this past summer, welcoming New Yorkers to explore the space before it begins its transformation as a modular container powerhouse of food and entertainment.

The $200 million project will begin its total renovation starting this winter, with the 270,000 square feet shipping container complex slated to open in time for summer of 2015.

Many tenants have already signed up, but the SuperPier is still looking to fill 20 more “superspaces,” and is on the hunt for innovators, creative projects by big brands, and entrepreneurs.

According to SuperPier’s website, the venue will be home to a bathhouse, sky park, Brooklyn Boulders rock climbing gym, beach club, performance space, and of course, the Incubox market.

The SuperPier also wants to decidedly define itself as NOT being a mall, although the rows of modular retail, restaurants and rooftop garden could loosely be defined as a forward thinking mall-like setting.

Construction begins soon, and is already being hyped as the “most innovative experience in culture, entertainment, dining and retail in NYC” since the opening of Rockefeller Center.
