The parking garage is situated on the roof of an underground parking lot at a social housing project in Benisaudet IVVSA. Open to the sky, the courtyard garden is well protected from wind and direct sun, but still receives light and rainfall. Urbanarbolismo utilized a variety of systems, products, sheets, and substrate to build the bed for the succulent garden.The garden not only helps keep the garage area cooler, but also improves the air quality.
A variety of succulents were chosen for this project based on the climate characteristics of Alicante — in total, 37 different species were selected including Crassula, Sempervivum, Aeonium, kalanchoe and Echeveria. The density of the garden was designed to be 50 plants per square meter, and as the plants grow older and more mature they will completely take over the entire courtyard. If one succulent were to die, its place would be taken by one of the adjacent plants.
