Two years ago ShareRoller unveiled a compact electric motor that could turn an ordinary bike into an electric cycle. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, ShareRoller just announced that its portable electric motor has been redesigned to work with almost any bike or kick scooter – and you can preorder one right now.

How does it work? The little electric motor only weighs 5.5 pounds, making it easy to carry on its own or in a laptop bag or handbag. To install it, you simply attach it to the front of your bike, which only takes about ten seconds. Once it’s attached, the ShareRoller’s 750 Watts of power will power your bike’s front wheel and allow you to reach speeds up to 20 mph without pedaling for 14 to 20 miles, while and Extended Range version can travel 25-36 miles. If you choose to pedal part of the way, the ShareRoller also features a variable throttle button to choose exactly the amount of assist you desire.

Pricing for the Shareroller starts at $649 for the base model that can travel up to 15 miles, while the top version with its 400-watt battery and 55 mile range will set you back $948. Those prices may seem a bit high, but if you consider how much a brand new electric bike costs, the Shareroller is a bargain.
