We’ve previously featured Duffy for his playful Swing Table, a modular unit that suspends guests around a long table. Like the Swing Table and Duffy’s other designs, the Abyss Table expertly executes a simple and imaginative idea into a unique, but functional piece of furniture. Each of his works is hand-made in his studio in the UK.

Of the inspiration for the design, Duffy says: “I was looking into sheets of thick glass at my glass manufacturer’s factory, and noticed how the material darkened as they added more layers–the same way the sea does as it deepens. I wanted to use this effect to replicate a real piece of the earth’s seabed. Like a mythical power had lifted a perfect rectangle straight from the earth’s crust to use as his personal ornament.”

Duffy and his design team developed the Abyss Table concept over the course of a year and experimented with different 3D arrangements until the setup resembled Duffy’s original vision. The table is hand made to order for £5,800.00 GBP each and will be limited to just 25 editions.
