This super shiny, reflective pavilion was part of a larger installation for artists' studios back in 2009 at the Stichting Nieuw en Meer in Amsterdam. With its rugged, hard, reflective surface and soft, organic interior, the fortress like studio is perfect for the modern day artist and archivist. Secret compartments and storage spaces are built into the ring-like building and hidden mirror doors keep out unwanted guests. Blending into its environment, Archive, designed by DHL Architecture for the Atelier Malkovich exhibition was one of 8 art studios built at half-size scale.

Designed first as a 100 sq meter space, the studio was stretched thin and wrapped into a ring.

Hidden storage spaces, compartments, shelving and doors were added to create an irregular shape, but also break up the monotony of the ring.

Like a labyrinth, the studio is suited endless walking around and around, perfect for contemplation.

The interior courtyard holds a large table and a tree to experience nature in solitude.
5
• Archive-DHL Architecture
DHL Architecture designed the space for the modern day artist, who thinks and collects information about the world around them, so the space and storage is meant to hold these collections.
6
• Archive-DHL Architecture
The exterior is coated in a shiny material to reflect the surrounding nature to help the building blend into its environment.
7
• Archive-DHL Architecture
The interior is built from light wood, translucent polycarbonate panels and recycled old wooden doors.
8
• Archive-DHL Architecture
While the exterior is opaque and blocks the views and the light, the translucent panels on the inside flood the small space in natural light.
9

Built to a 1:2 scale, it is neither a whole building nor a model, but a half size space more appropriate for a child perhaps.
