The new Blu | Balance prefab home is the largest of their prefab line coming in at 1,600 sq feet, which is still relatively small. The one story home has a flexible floor plan with either two or three bedrooms, and can be modified to include an office or media room. Daylight streams in through the clerestory windows and other sustainable strategies include low or no-VOC paints and finishes, recycled and recyclable materials, low-flow fixtures, energy star appliances, high efficiency heating systems, and architectural characteristics that maximize passive heating and cooling are featured throughout the house.

Blu has been working hard to develop homes that are more efficient and easily delivered as well as to minimize the work that needs to be done on site. The Balance home is delivered on two typical trucks, and ‘unfolds’ to be two modules that are 17’ wide, 48’ long, and have 16’ high ceilings. Once on site, a team of three workers can complete the home in five days, including all finishes, fixtures, drywall patching, etc., but not the initial site work and foundation which must be prepped beforehand. Blu is also adding a couple of new interactive features to their client design process, including Google Earth Siting to envision what the home will look like on your lot, as well as a virtual walkthrough of your designed home. Costs for the standard Blu | Balance start at $270,000, which comes out to $168/sq ft not including site work and the price of the land.
