Gloriously high vaulted ceilings can be the highlight of any home, yet when you’re low on square footage it can mean wasted space. Design firm In Situ found a way to highlight tall ceilings while also providing enough room to sleep. They installed a partially glass-floored bedroom loft in a Bucharest, Romania home with sharp, modern flair.

The lower space of the room has plenty of storage and is perfect for an office or library.

The extra floor space invites a comfortable sitting chair or room for indoor exercise.

Stacked atop this space is the lofted bedroom, equipped with extra shelving and a view of the night sky. Safety is not forgotten in the design, as carefully placed netting prevents anyone from toppling over.

One main theme of the design is eliminating wasted space. The downstairs walls are lined with bookshelves, yet each nook and cranny of the loft also features shelving and storage. All this is done while maintaining a bright and inviting atmosphere.

The glass flooring of the loft allows light upstairs and eases claustrophobia, while the skylight’s shine can be felt in all reaches of the room. This grown-up loft is a marvel of well-used space.
