If you thought rechargeable batteries were a good green idea, the USBCELL rechargeable battery will blow your mind- it plugs into any computer’s USB port to recharge. It’s a standard AA battery which will fit into all your every day uses. We’re not the only ones amped up about USBCELL- today at CEBIT, the green battery was awarded a Gold award at the IF Product Design ceremony. Produced by Moixa Energy, has a flip cap top that houses the USB port, and can be used like any regular AA battery. Not to mention, it cuts back on the nearly 15 billion Alkaline batteries made and thrown away each year.

This is VERY cool and convenient!

hooray for killing one batter to charge another…..
How is this green!?!
Are you kidding me?
Now every battery has to have the circuitry to enable charging, instead of having it in one place for all? Oh, and the capacity of the batteries is far less than it would be for other rechargeables because of the reduced volume.
Convenient? Yes, I’d say so, but calling this green is flat out wrong.
does anyone else think it’s kinda cute?

Designated I think the point is that this will make rechargable batteries easier and more popular, which in terms of the problems caused by disposable batteries is an entirely positive thing. Whether you charge the same battery repeatedly or several new ones, roughly the same amount of electricity is used either way.
I ordered a bunch of these when they came out last year and used them as Christmas presents. They are great! So useful for travel mice / controllers.
Amazing information – great post. I’m nowhere close to understanding how they create these, but in hindsight doesn’t it seem obvious?
how is this any greener than regular rechargeables? a solar powered battery charger might be a better story, but they’re old news. this is a great example of greenwashing – there’s nothing new or environmentally positive about this. not green.
i want to buy them!!!
to awesome to be real!!!!!!
awesome!!! really cool and effective idea. unique and smart =)
Amazing…very green…love it…imagine all those batteries that were all thrown away…
web site is coming – new start up – we turn air to water at 7.2 Alkaline water – or call 574 992 8112 thanks Goerge
This is as green as rechargable batteries are…. nothing special, it might be considered just a bit more prectical for several occasions. We should be looking for ways to reduce energy use. That’s the idea! With those we might lose some extra garbage-used-batteries,,, which is still good.
