Egeon Architecten’s Wood-Clad Home Near Amsterdam Shows Energy Efficiency Through Smart Design

    The new <a href="http://www.ijburg.nl/english">IJburg neighborhood</a> located on the Rieteiland-Oost Island of Amsterdam is home to a great <a href="http://www.egeon.nl/2_stadsvillarieteiland.html">new sustainable residence</a> by <a href="http://www.egeon.nl/">Egeon Architecten</a>. This 225 square-meter, three-story home is designed to maximize ground floor transparency while providing serene bedrooms and offices on the second and third floor. The home was designed with sustainability in mind, and many energy efficient and material conscious green building strategies were used. This home is a welcome addition to the progressive IJburg development, and it portrays the always impressive design aesthetics of Dutch architects.

    The overall composition of the home leads the eye to believe that the second floor mass float in the air between two transparent volumes.

    All-in-all, the energy consumption of the home and the design’s focus on bringing the natural surroundings into the home make this a wonderful addition to the always gorgeous modern regime of Dutch homes.

    The façade of the second floor can be viewed as devoid of transparency and completely clad in wood. Wood shutters open to reveal bedroom windows, but the owners maintain complete privacy on the second floor.

    The house is also designed with an impressive combination of sustainable features. Because of the low temperatures in Amsterdam, the home was designed with a heat pump combined with low temperature underfloor heating.
