Recently the Local Motors competition unveiled a fresh crop of incredible concept cars, and we were particularly impressed with the sleek NYC-centric Green Apple vehicle. A green machine that wouldn’t look too out of place in today’s world, the innovative three-seater features air intakes that spin integrated turbines to generate energy while purifying polluted inner-city air.

Not a bad thought, but this is 40-50 years away at best with our current state. Unless the government builds cars and eliminates free industry.
It looks nice, great idean of air cleaning, but one thing…. “spin integrated turbines to generate energy” is nosense. It’s not going to catch a wind like wind turbines, and to use air movement that you get from the car movement… is not generating any energy it’s just using your power source very uneficiently.
I love this idea. So innovative. What a way to turn the tables on how we think and operate. When the general public are hungry enough for products like this, then we will see all types of innovative ways of being conscious stewards of the earth and each other. Kudos for giving us the idea.
Please get a grasp of basic physics. Those turbines would only be driven by air through which the car is propelled. It takes energy to move the car and the turbines cause drag on the car. It would require more additional energy to move the car due to the turbines’ drag than could be produced by the turbines. You have lent credence to a foolish and amateurish styling exercise. Too many people think that three will be a product they can buy that will fix our environmental problems so are not changing their habits in the naive expectation that technology will save us. Don’t you have some handbags to sell us?
Wind turbines induce drag that reduces the car’s performance, which subsequently reduces MPG. Therefore it’s an irrelevant feature. However, purifying while driving would be nice. Toss a few of them into Beijing!
